Finsbury Circus

Finsbury Circus is the oldest and largest public park and an elliptical square in the City of London. A lovely area of green where Londeners can grab a sandwhich and bask in the sunshine on a hot day. There is a bowling green here too and whilst I dont really know to much about the sport, this is surely one of the best arenas in London.

Google Steet View comes to London

This is cool as I often embed Google maps in websites. Well now Google takes this one step further with steet view, which has just arrived in London. Now you can embed 360 scenes from London, and have street view on your directions page. Of course street view is just the street, so if you want to couple the experience with a virtual tour of your location then VR Web Design can easily do that for you. I’m just finishing a restaurant website at the moment where I aim to combine the virtual tour and streetview.

Until then check out where I live, its the closest tower block with the yellow top, floor 9 !

To embed streetview on your website, all you need to do is click the “Link” button and then copy the code from “Paste HTML to embed in website” and place into your website HTML or blog post/social networking website. “Customise and preview embedded map” is a nice addon to get your map exactly right.

Good work Google !

Web Camera Embedded in Panorama

This is really cool, for those of you out there that have web camera’s. Basically click the image below to view a 360 degree panorama from Piccadilly Circus, you will then be asked by flash player if you want to ‘allow’ or ‘deny’ VR Web Design to use your webcam, click ‘allow’ and hey presto you should appear on the advertising billboard at London’s famous landmark ‘Piccadilly Circus’.

Please note its not the best panorama I’ve taken, it was a bit of a rush photoshop job as I was quite excited about the webcam, also picture of me is er… not the best I can look :)

Picasso Illuminations on The National Gallery

I was passing through Trafalgar Square on Saturday night when I saw what looked like graffiti on the National Gallery. It looked amazing, I did’nt have my camera, but I returned on Monday to the gallery and asked a lady who worked there “what was the graffiti being projected onto the gallery the other night ?”. “Graffitti ?” she looked puzzled  “There has’nt been any graffiti !”, she said. Shocked she had’nt seen it, I quizzed her “are you sure ? It was massive, all over the building, it looked like…. graffiti ?”, “oh !” she said “you mean, PICASSO !”, “its being projected onto the gallery all week as part of the National Gallery’s must-see exhibition ‘Picasso: Challenging the Past’.”  WHOOPS, sorry Pablo ! Anyway here are some of the spectacular projections illuminating The National Gallery this week. You can catch the exhibition, from 25 February – 7 June 2009.

DJ Trax New Music Video Embedded in Panorama

This is an example of embedding a video into a 360 degree panorama or virtual tour. With brilliant music from DJ Trax and great 3D animation from Dean Warner, it gives the appearance of being projected onto the side of a building, in this case at the National Film Theatre. Any video will work and can be distorted and given depth to fit on anything in a 3D space. I will try to show some more examples in coming months ranging from a tv to cinema screen. You can hear the rest of DJ Trax’s new album and watch more videos at www.djtrax.wordpress.com Also check out some brilliant 3D visualisations and animated videos and motion graphics from 3D artist Dean Warner at www.divertedlight.com

Click the image underneath, wait a few seconds and then hit the fullscreen button (top right) for the best effect. Enjoy !
